Given that half the games I have so far suck, in my estimation, can anyone recommend any other titles? I just want a bit of arcade fun in my hands. Read the first post of this thread!
Or, in case you can't be bothered:
My list of games with one word reviews:
Advance Wars - Great. Kirby: Power Paintbrush (Canvas Curse) - Great. Animal Crossing - Great. Metroid Prime Pinball - Great. Phoenix Wright - Justice for All - Great.
Out of those, only Kirby and Metroid Pinball could really be classed as arcade fun, though. (The other genres being strategy, nothing, and quasi-I.F., respectively).
Kirby is a standard platformer, with a wonderfully unusual control scheme. Once you get the hang of it, it's very zen.
MPP is the most pinbally pinball game I've played outside of the peerless Visual Pinball. If you don't like pinball though, it'll bore the heck out of you.
Finally, if you're into Angband, I can put you in touch with a guy that's done an excellent port. |

I'm really looking forward to the new Zelda. Just read a review of the Japanese version, and so am I, now. Looks awesome! |

And speaking of Animal Crossing, I just missed the UFO AGAIN, once more for a completely unjust reason. First thing I did was talk to Booker, to find out if anything is going on. He doesn't know anything. So I hang around at the north end of town for a few minutes, waiting for the UFO... it doesn't come. So since it could be Pascal instead, I do a quick run around the beach to look for him - he's not there. I then decide to return to the town gate and ask Booker again, just to make sure I selected the right option, since he says the same thing if you ask for lost property when there is none (even though I'm 99% certain I'll have 10+ pitfall seeds awaiting collection). And the very millisecond that I step over the barrier and start entering the gate, the UFO appears on the top screen
And naturally, the game doesn't bother tracking objects in the sky if you enter and exit buildings, so as soon as I got back out again it was gone completely.
Also I have been unjustly killed by a scorpion yesterday (I saw it hiding in some flowers... and then all the villagers descended on it at once, flushing it out and causing it to attack me), and had yet another giant fish escape from me.
Plus I gave up juggling trees around a month ago so haven't got my perfect town rating yet.
AND YET I STILL PLAY.
But I do almost have 1 million bells

I don't think I've played Animal Crossing yet this year. Hate to think how many weeds will be around.
Your post has inspired me, though, and I might try to find it tonight. |

I believe I have just configulated my router to send all unknown packets to my DS. So if you want to open your gates again, we can try that. |

I'll open my gates now. If it works WE WON'T KNOW WHAT FIXED IT. |

My DS is definitely connecting to my router, and my router is definitely routing all unknown stuff to the DS.
However the battery light has just come on on my DS, so maybe we should try again running on mains power |

Mario Kart... just felt really slow. Mario might as well get out and push or walk home. I'll probably part exchange it. Sonic irritated me so much I almost threw my DS across the room.
Anyway, Metroid Prime Hunters looks fun but I wonder how a FPS will translate into a d-pad. I'm too used to the two-handed PC-style wasd-mouse combination. :/
Ta for the other suggestions. |

Mario Kart... just felt really slow. Mario might as well get out and push or walk home. Is that because you're still on the first (50cc?) cup? The others are faster.
Anyway, Metroid Prime Hunters looks fun but I wonder how a FPS will translate into a d-pad. I'm too used to the two-handed PC-style wasd-mouse combination. :/ The main enemy of MPH is how uncomfortable it is to play. You use the stylus on the touch screen to look around (not as good as a mouse, but it works OK), and the d-pad to walk/strafe. Left shoulder button fires.
The difficulty comes in that you also need to arrange your fingers so that you can use the right shoulder button (for boosting) and one of ABXY (for jumping - although you can also double-tap the screen instead). Luckily you never need to do both at the same time, since boosting is used when in ball form and jumping in human form (Although I can't think why they just didn't allow you to the same key for both things).
There is a control configuration where everything is done using the buttons, but as a keyboard-and-mouse gamer you should really take the analogue route like everyone else and live with a mangled right hand |

If you don't get out of bed for 11 months, a quite remarkable amount of weeds grow in your town. On the plus side: four-leaf clovers!
Also, what the hell is this stinking great big flower that I can't pick or dig up that there's loads of flies buzzing around? Or am I possibly misreading it and it is actually the rotting corpse of one of my neglected animals?
Should I attack it with an axe?
Also, that jumbotron thing: nice! |
