I've been following the posts about developing a 3d engine on top of OpenG'e'L API (as I understand it ) Something which hasn't been mentioned is the Iron Dignity engine, or to be exact what it was developed from. The engine came from the code of commercial 3d package Merlin, the sourcecode of which is on the Coding Vault website. Just a thought. |

That's very interesting but I think the thinkg you have to remember about this project is that the people who are intending to do the programming are more-or-less new to the area and we have decided to have a go at doing this as more capable people are not present, able or willing to come foward and develop this depsite several pleas from Nathan. Therefore it is expected to be a learning experience. At this point, I'd expect such code to be too complex to obtain many ideas or specifics from. |

As I understand it Merlin was a ray-tracing environment whereas Iron Dignity is a mega evolution from the code used in Magnetoids. |

Interesting post. Since I an the founder and maintainer of the Coding Vault I must have the source code....I do :-) Interestingly enough there are a few files missing which Stefan is trying to get for me. Re: Lee's post. Iron Dignity does indeed use part of the Merlin code. There were three people who wrote Merlin and Frank did a few bits and pieces for the core routines. He also developed the texturemapping routines from Merlin as I understand it. |

Ooooo Nathan, don't keep us in suspense for too long, from what I recall, the Magnetoids engine was quite a sexy one. I wonder what we could extract from it (if anything ?) |
