Hi,

I've made a very work in progress version of ACED available for RISC OS - if you've played the Windows version, then there hasn't been any real change to it except there's no sound (and runs at 640x80 instead of 800x600 - vector graphics are really good at this kind of thing!)

There are bugs in this, and to be honest, I'm not interested in them (I won't be until I'm getting to release time), so if you find any, please don't tell me! I know it sounds odd, but I don't want to have lots of emails from people telling me the same thing over and over again (especially if I already know this).

So why am I releasing it? Mainly so you can have a look to see how it plays.

http://www.tribbeck.com/software/aced/ is the main page for it - there's a note in there about all of this, screenshots and so forth. There's also a link for the MP3 of the music I've (rather quickly) written for it. The music may change later on - it depends on how creative I'm feeling then. You will have the option of turning the music on/off (and change the volume) if you don't like it smile

I haven't created an application for it - so simply extract it and run the "run" file.

All of this I'll sort out nearer its release...

Jason,

Now, that kind of bug I want to know about smile

Edit the run file, and remove this line:

RMEnsure FahZhi 0.06 RMLoad Equinox:FahZhi

Sorry about that - I copied the line that loads FahZhi from Equinox, but forgot to change that bit.

[edited to remove the line, rather than comment it out or fix it - much easier!]

That's working now smile

It looks really need and it's surprising how the gameplay feels so similar to SC yet in 3D.

Looking forward to being able to complete a level now, unlike SC where I couldn't get anywhere far.

Also, I should try the music as well.

It is a lot better with sound effects and music - just finishing those bits off now, although everything's a bit loud!

Should be able to do that by Saturday...

I added a few more things, so it's taken a day longer.

ACED R2 is now available from http://www.tribbeck.com/software/aced/

There's still a few more things to do before I'm finished with it though...

Great music Jason. Have you got any more? It'd be good to have 2 or 3 which played.

Also, what are the boxes that float around and stick with you , what are you supposed to do with them?

Thanks - although it's not the best I've written (I wasn't feeling terribly inspired that day). The Equinox music is much better (but then it is meant to be a more complete game, so the music should be better smile ). Equinox has 2 tunes (one for the game [which is much longer], and one for the title pages [or "shop"]).

Also, what are the boxes that float around and stick with you , what are you supposed to do with them?

Collect them - they either give you more energy, or cause damage to the enemies (it depends on how large they are as to how much more energy or damage they cause).

Best ones are the very large "battery" which completely recharges you - very useful when you're down to your last shred of energy smile

This evening, I got ACED working fine on the A9home (including music), and also Equinox now runs on it as well.

It's actually pretty good to be able to do this - I need to get my development environment on the machine as well, which means I won't have to lug my RiscPC around if I go to visit my brother in France...

Is Equinox 3D? The graphics look good although it seemed they were sprite generated?

Equinox is 2D; they are sprites. I'm in two minds to make it 3D - but I probably won't as a lot of effort has gone into generating them, and also the 3D graphics aren't as visually appealing as the 2D ones.

However, I do like the complete freedom of the 3D, so I may have to increase the number of sprites per object so it doesn't look quite so jerky when rotating smile
