Time to enlist!

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 09:30, 18/3/2002 | ,

Unknown trooperJan "Artex" Klose has mailed us with an intriguing proposition - become a TEK trooper!

The first 20 people to email tektrooper@acornarcade.com will get a TEK trooper named after them. All the units in the game have to have names, and Jan thinks that an Acorn Arcade special is the way to do it! There is one restriction however - the name is limited to 6 characters max, so you may need to be a little creative.

Unregistered user You ,may think that but it's wrong (no pun intended).

Unregistered user Ignoring the fact that it may be wrong: Word throws a wobbly [green line] with "it's", but not with "its"...

Unregistered user Rich - your edit profile doesn't save the changes (or tell me where I went wrong [or doesn't tell me clearly enough if I missed it ;-) ]) - where's me 'k'?

Unregistered user Jase - you should know by now that I write Perl as BASIC and then work out what I have to change ;)

Unregistered user An "it" can't possess anything, so "it its" would be... probably still wrong. "I'll give it some dinner" would be better ;)

Unregistered user AFAIK it should be "its". "It's" is short for "it is", whereas "its" is the equivalent of "his" or "hers". I wouldn't pay much attention to what Word sticks green lines under. It's pretty hopeless with apostrophes.

Still, at least this isn't quite as bad as putting apostrophes in plurals. Grr...

Unregistered user I think they're both okay Rich. It is a pronoun (relacing the cat, the dog or whatever) and you can use two pronouns together if you want such as "it its.

I created this problem :-D

I just remembered you saying you'd given up on it!

cheers

Andrew

Unregistered user Jase - read my comment about writing Perl in BASIC or I'll reset the clock on your server. Oops, too late! ;)

Unregistered user Okay guys, is this a commenting session about writing code to check for names 6 characters long or for commenting about TEK? While you're at it though, what's so good about Perl anyway?

Gareth
