I thoroughly approve of the integration of article comments into the forum system.
However, this has led to the minor irritation, that, in the case of clicking a link to the comments for an article from the forum, you are taken to the top of the page, rather than the top of the comments.
When this is a long article, that results in a lot of scrolling before you get to what you wanted to see.
It's arguable whether or not the main forum topic link should go straight to the top of the comments (I still think it should), but links to subsequent pages definitely should. Same for "next page" and whatnot links on the topic pages themselves. |

Hmm, good point, and should be fairly easily fixed.
Not that I'm saying I'll get round to it of course, what with it being nearly home time ________ Cheers, Rich.

That's greeeeeat!
But I was kinda hoping the links from the Thread column of the forum pages, (in particular the small direct page links underneath the title of multipage threads, but also the titles themselves) would go there, too.
Is that feasible? |

I see, moon-stick boy!
I don't like it on the main titles - for instance, clicking on "Sticky: News and Features: Icon Bar and Acorn Arcade relaunch" doesn't (apparently) tell you anything about the relaunch, because you're skipping the article.
The individual pages, no problem - done. ________ Cheers, Rich.

The comments links on the front page need doing too.
Would a 'Jump to comments' link on the article page suit Mr Moon-Stick? |

Would a 'Jump to comments' link on the article page suit Mr Moon-Stick? That would be helpful, but more of a workaround, IMHO. You should always be able to leap straight to the comments from the forum index page. With Rich's sterling work, you can now do this if the thread has more than one page of comments, but you still can't do it if there's only a few comments.
One solution would be to make the "Page:" sublinks always visible, but that might look a bit cluttered.
A better solution might be to add a "Comments" column to the table, with links to whatever pages are available. That'd presumably be a whole lotta work, though.
I am happy for my display-name to be changed to Mr. Moon-Stick, if the powers that be deem it appropriate. |

I just made the title in the forum display link to #comments. If you want the article, hit the front page. Or the news archive. Or the search engine. Or just scroll up.
I could put a small "Up to article" link near the comments I guess, but then I'd have to write code to work out if there actually is an article, and that's too much like hard work.
