I'm looking for a game I remember playing on my A3000 about 10 years ago called 'Boffin'. My memory is a bit hazy, but it was a platformer as far as I remember - you controlled a mad professor type character (the boffin) who had to collect test tubes of different colours and mix them to create other colours.
I also think the menu screen was a series of doors for different options (new game, password, settings, etc) which you selected by opening with the boffin.

No, I am not thinking of Mad Professor Mariarti, nor am I thinking of the BBC Micro game Boffin by Addictive Games where you controlled a professor with an umbrella collecting horseshoes.

Does anyone remember this or have any information about it? Or could anyone even point me in the direction of a copy?

Many thanks! smile

I believe there was such a game on the RISC User games disc. It wasn't PD, but a low priced commercial disk of "better than mag disc" quality games (at the time).

If it is the one I think it is, it'll be on our RISC User CDs. We could probably work something out cheap if you just want that.

Also I'm looking to play it on an emulator, would it be available as a zip file?

Thanks guys smile

Hiya!

Yes, it appears to be the one in the clip, (c) 1993 RISC User, according to help file.

A word of warning, it ran too fast on my 4Ghz RISCube, so you'd probably want to play it on ArcEm or A310em to get a more playable speed. I can certainly supply as a zip, by the way, via email.

As for pricing, it is difficult to do much under a fiver these days (esp when you add in VAT and card charges), I'm afraid. I'd be inclined to throw in all the RISC User games for that, though.

Alternatively, if there's anything else you'd like from our software range (see www.rcomp.co.uk ), I'd probably just throw it in as a freebie.

After spending at least ten seconds typing arcane and unexpected things like "A310Em" into this amazing but little-known tool called "Google", I managed to find this site which not only explains what it is, but gives a download location too! Ah, the wonders of the Information Superhighway.

Cheers! I don't think there's really any need to be a twat about it. I googled too, but you must have used magic words, or perhaps - probably - you're a more special person than me big grin

I must admit that I normally preface any 'Googling' with either RISCOS or ACORN to focus the search.
Works for me.smile

Haha big grin In my defence, not having heard of it before (and it being mentioned in the same sentence as ArcEm), I was thinking it was a thing for Windows, but it's not... it's for them there Acrons or summit tongue
