Could we have a slight redesign of the front page? I'd like to see a graphic of some kind for each news story posted - whether it's a screenshot thumbnail, a show photograph or a logo for a company, it makes the page more attractive. If it's thought that a page full of photos might slow things down, then perhaps we could trim the number of news stories on that page, archiving the rest off?
Also, the sections along the top of IB are rarely listed. In these days of Drobe trying to be everything to everyone (with some very nice features like the AU scans), would it be sensible for IB to trim the fat and concentrate on news, forums and free ads?
Just a few thoughts |

Images are posted with news items if and when they are appropriate, I don't see the point of adding them just for the sake of having images. You end up having to make logos for things that really serve no purpose.
I'm not sure what you mean by the sections being 'rarely listed', they don't take up much space. TIB was created from the start as an outlet for both news and RISC OS resources. The sections are a big part of that, even if they aren't used as much as we might have hoped. |

Oops, "rarely used" I meant I had a glance through them, and really, there's nothing in them so not sure I see the point in them being there.
Oh and I like pretty pictures AcornArcade.com is looking pretty these days with the screenshots on the front page. |

Surely the solution to the "rarely used" sections is to, erm, use them!
I notice that Chris Drobe Williams is admin of the Desktop section. Does he have sneaky access to our staff forums so he can read what we're up to? |

I thought Andy Poole had done the necessary removal of my attachment to that section and so on. I don't mind someone else stepping up to take it over or if you think I ought to update it. Whatever you want.
And no, I can't read the private staff forums, that would be rather unethnical, wouldn't it.
Chris. |

I didn't think you were still involved, it was just the e-mail address that threw me a bit.

I did start a collection of stock images (which are still on the server IIRC) to be a bit more Slashdot-like but it got rather dull... ________ Cheers, Rich.

Hmm. I don't really think we want too many images that we don't need Having said all that, there is rarely a news story that you couldn't put some kind of useful piccy on, even if it's just a screenshot. Maybe it's just down to the news editors to hunt a bit more |

I'm against the idea, on the grounds that it'd increase the amount of stuff people have to wait to download, and I don't like the look of sites that have generic pictures shoved alongside every news item (My RISC OS anyone? although looking at the site their pics seem to have little at all to do with what the item's about. Either that or they don't have enough varieties. Anyway, it's a bad idea ) |

Menu->Display->Foreground images *tries*
Bah! I'll have to dig up my login details to try that. Not worth the effort, just read TIB instead |
