My forum account for Acorn Arcade has vanished (Unknown username when I try to log in, none of my messages have my name next to them, etc.), and I seem unable to log into my email account (Just sits there waiting for a response from the server).

Web and FTP seem to be working fine though.

The primary hard drive is beginning to fail, so I'm currently trying to get the backup server running before it goes completely. And before I go on holiday. And before I :Puke: from this 'flu bug.

Have you ever thought of trying RAID?

I can hardly afford the hardware and hard drives I have now, never mind buying more expensive kit and doubling the number of HDDs I have to shell out for :(

I'm sure he does, but I don't want to rely on it.

It's always good to have your own backups anyway.

The backups I've done are on the server they're backing up - not as bad as it sounds as I back up across drives, so as long as it's only one drive failing it's OK. However, if the server crashes and burns before I finish populating the backup then it's a trip to London to retrieve the drive :(

The idea, of course, was to download the backups every weekend. However, I just don't have the bandwidth at home :(

I have local copies of ROIW and egnufeB, since I tend to do development on my own copy of Apache instead of messing round uploading files all the time. They're essentially the same as the live copies, so I can't really be bothered making backups all the time.

I take it you're only backing up the changed files? Otherwise it's not particularly surprising if you don't have the bandwidth :o

Unfortunately the AA forums (being file based and generally ancient) are a lot more susceptible to these problems. I've got rid of the most obvious errors but they're pretty screwed so I might just have to move them over to this forum (which won't be easy).

Mail, Web and DNS are up on the new server; I just have to move the data across.

AA won't have changed much, so I can go to the backups from a fortnight ago. The web site drive shouldn't be fialing AFAIK, just the OS drive (i.e. the one with the DB).

Hmm, guess I'd better grab a copy of the recent news items then

But the Acorn Arcade forums are held on the web drive, aren't they?

Just in case!

Vaguely. But finding a copy of it somewhere would have been a lot easier than redrawing it... and I don't need it anymore :)
