I know the play pen was devised to separate the rubbish from the useful stuff, but it's been used as an excuse to drivel excessively. I don't particularly see why a RISC OS forum should have a forum for things like that, expecially given the content of some of the postings. What do people think? I know there's the "Well don't go there" line, but TBH most of the stuff there shouldn't be going on anywhere, especially somewhere associated with RISC OS trying to be taken seriously. Anyway, as I say, what do epople think? |

Yes provided we don't let the tone drop too low then ot's a good light-hearted way to communicate with fellow RISC OS users which there doesn't seem to be an opening for anywhere else. |

Ah yes. Why, on the topic list, does that list of pages display one less than the actual number of pages displayed on the messages list? Most annoying. |

I'm not sure if I quite understand that one - can you explain further? If you look at the 'Cheddar Gorge' topic in The Playpen, for instance - the number of pages displayed in the topic list is one less than the number of pages it has, so you cannot access the last page using that method. |

It happens when it goes over a certain number - I can't remember which one though. Five is OK. Nine (ten really) is broken. I can't find any threads in between - it looks like once threads hit the critical threshold of 5 pages, they don't stop growing until they're as big as Cheddar Gorge.

From my point of view, the Playpen not only keeps some of our regular visitors happy while stopping them swamping everyone else with drivel, it's also good for pushing the limits of the forum script without breaking anything important I did notice a tiny bug: it displayed 1,2,3...4,5,6 on the topic page. Playpen is good, IF silly behaviour is kept there, it does seem to be spilling out far too often. |

It was a good idea of Rich's (I think) to keep the rest of the forums silly-free, without being draconian, so TIB remains cool I can't claim to have come up with the idea, but it didn't take me the usual week+ to put it in to action From my point of view, the Playpen not only keeps some of our regular visitors happy while stopping them swamping everyone else with drivel, it's also good for pushing the limits of the forum script without breaking anything important Put it this way, we're better off for it being here than for it not existing or being put on some other special site that nobody every visits. |

I like it. It's at the bottom. It's called the playpen. It's fun. It allows us RISC OS types to keep a sense of humour associated with RISC OS, which god only knows we need. It keeps me looking at TIB when news/serious forums are slow. It was a good idea of Rich's (I think) to keep the rest of the forums silly-free, without being draconian, so TIB remains cool -- YAY |

I think the playpen is a good place to add a little humour, and its well clear of the other forums so its still optional if you want to use it or not. And it also keeps all the other off-topic posts away from the main forum |

From my point of view, the kind of stuff I post doesn't really break the boundaries - there are far more offensive jokes in mainstream BBC sitcoms! As for "TBH most of the stuff there shouldn't be going on anywhere" - I don't really understand that - this is the internet, there's far worse stuff on it, and besides, there's room for nearly everything. I really do think that the title "The Playpen" is very descriptive, and indeed, I bet that a lot of people who don't get our sense of humour - or, indeed, have more important things to do - steer clear of it.
