hi all,
i've recently ressurrected my acorn risc pc, and have been listening to a load of tunes i wrote with eduard pfarr's coconizer when i was about 16-17. in the 8 years or so since then i've done a degree and become a computer programmer, but i still spend a lot of time writing music. (all done on a pc these days...)
basically, i'd like to write an application (would have to be a pc one as i don't have any acorn c++ programming tools) to convert coconizer music files to midi, which could then be used in any number of applications on acorn, pc and mac. anything i wrote would be distributed freely online of course...
so, i'm wondering if *anyone* out there would have any idea how the coconizer file format might work, or might be able to dig out some specs for it? also, is eduard pfarr himself still involved with the acorn scene at all? i've tried emailing him but i don't think i have a valid address.
thanks in advance for any help,
will |

I think Coconizer is probably a 'tracker' (or 'Mod') style format, as was originally developed on Amiga. If you still have the program to create music, I suggest you write some minimal tunes and examine the output. Also, perhaps perusing other formats might help ( Like here maybe?) |

yeah its definitely a tracker format (well one of them is anyway). still got all the software up and running so your idea about looking at basic tunes isn't a bad one. (though i'm not really that used to reverse engineering stuff i'm sure i could work it out)
thanks for the link - i've just remembered i've got software that could convert coconizer trackers to other formats so it may be that one of them is described there, or that a tool already exists for an amiga format...
(also, i've just had a vague memory of seeing the coconizer file format described in one of the coconizer help files, but seeing as i've not looked at them for many years i may be wrong... definitely going to check that out tonight though)

Mail me the Coconizer files and i'll comvert them to MIDI for you. (zipped preferably)
Of course the samples will be replaced by General MIDI instruments... |
