I've returned to RISCOS 4 (at last!)and using VirtualAcorn RPC-Adjust. Very happy, but I'm trying to reload some of my software and have come across a problem I remember from the early days of RISCOS4 when using Impression Publisher (not sure of the version, but it's at least 4.07.) When I try to load it I get the series of error messages: Buffer Overflow, then Illegal Window Handle, then Internal Error: abort on data transfer at &0223CF90.
I seem to remember there was a simple workround, but have forgotten what it is. Can anyone help? |

This is often caused by a font with a name too long for Impression to cope with. I can't remember exactly what the maximum number of characters permitted was, but I think it was 10.
Take a look at your fonts and temporarily remove any with long names. Don't forget to remove the Messages file if you have them in a !Fonts folder otherwise they'll still appear on the menu even though they don't exist. |

Thanks for the advice. I've checked the font names and none is more than 10 characters long. I've looked in the Messages file and all is as I would expect.
Could this have anything to do with increasing the size of the memory put aside for anti-aliasing and cacheing? |

I also have the problem with Impression in RiscOS 4 but it also occurs on my RiscPC using 3.7.
Have you found the workaround?
Incidentially, !Tablemate refuses to load with Buffer overflow and Fireworkz also has the buffer overload error on loading but at least does load onto the iconbar.
Kind regards,

I found the problem, with help from A. Timbrell when I did a Google search. In my case, I had downloaded some Fonts, converted from PC, which caused the problem.
I suggest that somewhere in your !Fonts lies the problem.
