Hello

I'm currently trying to get started with BBC BASIC, but I can't seem to find any tutorials online. Can any of you recommend some links or books that might help get a novice like me off the ground?

Thanks :-)

There's a short tutorial at http://wragg.orpheusweb.co.uk/pages/tutor.htm. No idea whether it's any good, but it does look like it starts from the beginning.

Although it's for the PC version, you might also have a look at http://www.cix.co.uk/~rrussell/products/bbcwin/manual/index.html.

For general RISC OS programming tips, try http://www.snowstone.org.uk/riscos/documents/programmertips.html. There used to be a collection of articles called tofla-something (was it hosted on the Iconbar server?), but I couldn't find that just now.

comp.sys.acorn.programmer on Usenet will help too, as will this forum. A manual on BBC BASIC can be found at http://sudden.recoil.org/stronghelp/. To use this you'll need the StrongHelp application on RISC OS.

You best bet, however, may be to try and find one of the many books that were published on BBC BASIC at one time or another, some by Acorn and some by other publishers. EBay is good place to start.

Hope this helps.

Have a look on tofla.iconbar.com - Acorn User's Back To Basics tutorial is reproduced there, amongst other things: http://www.tofla.iconbar.com/tofla/cats.htm

Thanks for the plug (to the snowstone page) though your links don't work because of the extra full stop at the end :(

Anyway, to the point... you could have found the tofla page by looking at the links on the snowstone page ;)

Yup, keeping an eye on ebay at the moment - just need to get around to bidding!

Hope this helps.
Very much so! Thank you! :-)

David Bradforth announced yesterday that you can buy "Basic V - A Dabhand Guide" for $6 as a PDF or $12.45 printed.
