Am I the only person that thinks it's ridiculous to have to pay £30 for Stunt Racer 2000? It's been 10 years for gods sake! (only reason i'm REALLY naffed off is because i left all my disks in the attic and i've had a leak in the roof.. bye bye archie games, every single one of them knackered!!) They dumped a load of A5000's at a local school a few months back and i'd planned to FINALLY finish Pandora's Box, SR2000 and The Dungeon.. ah well. The thing that's upset me the most is that I HAD working copies of Ballarena and Legend Of The Lost Temple (I remember speaking to Eterna and they gave me 3 lines of code which patched it for RISC OS 3, how I wish i'd noted it down) which I LOVED but I can't find for the life of me.. gutted. Absolutely gutted. Uhm. No point to this really. Just ranting. Tho if anyone could help me out with Cataclysm (in the HINTS&TIPS section) it'd be really appreciated! |

They are still asking £30 for StuntRacer?! Times never change. When I was around the reason for SR and other 4D games being that expensive was because of the deal that was signed with the original 4D owners. Not sure if that stands up any more. |

I agree, the price of these old games is ridiculous consider the current situation of the market. In front of me I have an old '92 copy of Acorn User, and the nice glossy 4D section in it has all the old prices and they're much the same as today... :S Though I really miss playing X-Fire and Cataclysm, so I sent an email off to 4D yesterday asking if anyone had thought of porting it and whether I could see the code for it. No doubt the response will be negative. Those games were great, they deserve modern life. |

As far as I know the original code for Cataclysm no longer exists as I tried to chase that for an update eons ago. A lot of the original code for 4D games has been lost. The same can be said for a lot of games but it can be more difficult to update existing code than rewriting from scratch. |

As far as I know, CJE no longer sell or have the rights to sell the 4D games anymore. I believe they sold the lot to APDL. Both Cataclysm and X-Fire were patched to run on OS4.39 (in case anyone didn't know). I don't think APDL have got around to making them all available again yet. |

They have updated the flight-sims and resurrected Spitfire 40 but it's all lumped onto a CD. I don't know about documentation or packaging for pride-of-ownership etc. |

Indeed, although CJE still have a section called "4D" it's not "The 4th Dimension", which is now owned by APDL. See http://www.apdl.co.uk/games.htm Both the games mentioned (and lots more) have now been re-released and are fully RO 3.6 to 4.39 compatible. And I don't think even the most stingy could moan about the price since each collection is only 14.90 for at least half a dozen games :-) |

Is there any chance of any of the 4th Dimension games being made 32 bit compatable? |

Yeah, that'd be good, but some of the games on the collections will work natively on an A9Home but not an Iyonix, It would certainly add more games to the range of Commercial 32-Bit Games. |

Nathan (wrath) are you the man from VOTI / FLAYMZ If so, are you still going and are you developing any games? I am the man from VOTI/FlaYmz. I am still going, as in breathing I am no longer involved in the RISC OS market if that's what you are getting at. I was involved in a Starfighter PC-type game but the PC testers didn't like the control mechanism and I sort of got distanced from it. |
