hi, just been looking through AU, & i've stumbled over an application that might help getting Movies for RiscOS games. Its called !SplitMPEG and can be found at: ftp://ftp.argonet.co.uk/pub/Acorn/PD/graphics/ Looking at the !readme it will convert a basic MPEG into an uncompressed Replay, although it will lose the sound. I seem to remember seeing on a PD CD a program that would mix a .WAV file into a replay, so I think that you could replace the sound. The final thing to do would just be to recompress it. hopefully that may be some use, & help with the current games. |

Doh! Just goes to show how observant I am - I mirrored the entire ArgoNet Acorn FTP site on this server, and never noticed that even though I've been looking for Replay stuff: ftp://ftp.iconbar.com/pub/argonet/Acorn/PD/Graphics/ |

Remeber how I told you that FTP has no concept of virtual domains, and so there's only one anonymous FTP server on Neo...? Any domain hosted on Neo "has" a mirror - try ftp://www.houseofmabel.com/pub/ |

Apparently this application will only work with certain (older I think) versions of MPEG2 files. |

"RiscOpenMPEG" @ coders cauldron anyone You want it, you can have it... although it might be worth looking into what Linux movie stuff is around and maybe try a port of player and encoder both. |

just thought of a place for some video codec source code - have a look at www.divx.com and www.projectmayo.com where you can find the source code for DIVX so that might help with writing something for RiscOS :/ |

To quote myself from the comments on the Tek Progress Update news item : BTW I have a very very primitive build of OpenDivX (from ProjectMayo) up and running. Depending on how other things go I should be able to release something in the nearish future - a couple of days or so. It runs fine with small movies ( 160x128 ), but larger ones really chug. I haven't added sound support yet. -- Then below that : Since my OpenDivX player uses AVI files I can look into adding some other AVI codecs into the mix, probably straight from xanim This will obviously take longer for me to do - although ideally not that long - (and I have got other priorities atm). However when it gets done the source and binary will be released so that it can be used however you want. It probably won't be optimal, but having the source, which people can play with will hopefully mean that such things can be done by other people. -- Progress is being made and as indicated above its not a quick process. These things take time, I do have other things to do... but I have been working on it. |

Excellent! DivX for RISC OS - now where are those new powerful, 32 bit computers that are just around the corner? |
