Repton 3 lives on!

Posted by Richard Goodwin on 12:42, 29/5/2002 | ,

We just received an email from old Acorn enthusiast Tom Godber about a new product from Masabi, a company founded by him and another Acorn enthusiast, which has signed a deal with Superior Software to convert Repton 3 to next generation mobile phones and connected PDAs.

He says: "Our aim is to give the core game away for free, making it as easy as possible to pass between friends, and charge a micropayment (less than the cost of a ringtone for current phones) per level and/or sprite set ('skin' seems to be the current trendy layman-friendly name), releasing all 144 levels from Repton 3, Around the World in 40 Screens, Life of Repton and Repton Thru Time with the original Archimedes graphics (to make use of the increased colour depth on these new phones).

"On top of this we'll be providing web-based level and sprite editors so anyone can create them for their friends or publish them to the whole community, and other things that can only be achieved in an online environment like leaderboards based round speed records for levels, single session high scores etc."

Other titles such as Thrust, Pipeline and Ravenskull are also being looked into for a one-off price.

Unregistered user If you can think of any other Superior Software titles that might go well on a smartphone, Masabi are interested in hearing your thoughts...

Unregistered user I reckon that boxing wallaby game, can't remember it's exact title though. I used to waste entire days playing it on my BBC master before I sold it.
Another one that would go REALLY well is AirLift.
that wee game where you bomb the tanks and rescue the hostages, can't remember if Superior published it or not.
Catcha, Ben B.

Unregistered user Funnily enough, GEK started writing a new version of AirLift called Chop-X. There are three levels and it is really good. Unfortunately it was a tad difficult to create levels so it's sat on a shelf with our Scotland colleague.
