I was going to buy one but they already have a line of 8 people outside my local Target in the middle of nowhere. Apparently it formed last night!
:o

Serious question: why do you want one?

I read that hardly anyone is buying one to play. Most are buying to sell on eBay. So, who is buying them for $2000+ a pop?
Nobody, I hope. I'm not sure the prices will go so high this time anyway - if eBay is flooded with PS3 auctions, there's less incentive to bid so highly.

Not sure I do any more, after playing on one. The graphics on Motorstorm and NBA 07 are terrible. :(

Anyway, I want(ed) one because it's the cheapest Blu-Ray player out (I love the way HD movies look on my telly), and since I only have a laptop, it's a much better platform to play games on.

I've been scouring the net for a single person who has a PS3 who is actually playing it. I'd love to hear a review of some of the new titles for it. Sadly, everyone has put them on eBay.

How are you watching them at the moment?

Yeah, I think a computer for stuff and a console for games is the way to go.

If you had managed to buy one, would you do the same?

Have you seen any Wii demo kiosks?

Comcast digital cable, at 1080i. Looks really good! I've got a rear projection HD set.

...and an Iyonix...
...which has games spilling off the HD platter... ;)

Probably not, because a lot of people have been artifically bumping up the prices on eBay to stop people from selling them. I have yet to read of anyone successfully selling one (or anyone actually opening and playing the unit they bought). I think I would have kept it.

Have you seen any Wii demo kiosks?
None yet, sadly, but my local store is getting hundreds in to buy so I will try on Sunday to get one!

Will do. I stopped by Target tonight and they have a Wii in a glass box playing a demo video on an LCD monitor. I didn't see any games running or the controller. The PS3 looks bigger than in photos and a bit less cool, but the Wii looks smaller and ever better in person.

There's already a line of 10 people outside, and apparently they are only getting 30, not "hundreds" as they told me before. I'm going to start lining up at 6am if there are less than 30 people there (the shop opens at 8am). I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.

Still here, thankfully!

The Wii is amazing. I didn't realise the wireless remote can play sounds! When playing Zelda, if you get hit or run into a tree, a sound is played from the remote! It's also 480p and does "proper" (i.e. anamorphic) widescreen. I haven't played with the internet stuff yet but I am going to get it connected to my network tonight and create my "Mii", the avatar you use when playing online.

The graphics look pretty good, despite the thing having a similar graphics chip to the Gamecube. 480p looks pretty decent. The games are polished and the whole thing just screams fun. Oh, and the Gamecube wireless controller can plug into the top via connectors covered by a panel.

Of course, Twiilight Princess is still a GameCube game, so you can't judge the graphics on that. Have you got any other games?

How do the 480p graphics scale on a HDTV? Can you actually tell the difference between that and anything higher res from the sofa? What's the difference in quality between the component and composite cables?

Through the wiimote? That could get annoying! :P

Also: we need videos of you playing Wii Sports :)

It's a Wii game - it uses the Wii-mote pretty extensively (unless I am misunderstanding what you meant). I also have Call of Duty 3, and this looks amazing despite the limited graphics capabilities of the Wii. I have GT Pro Series too, but the graphics in that are horrible - not sure why.

I just realised that because I only have the composite cable, I am actually getting 480i from the Wii. However, my TV converts everything to progressive scan, so I am seeing 480p on the screen. I'll get component cables just as soon as I find them - they didn't have any this morning. From other sources though, yeah, you can easily tell the difference between 480p and 720p/1080i. It makes a huge difference.

I meant that it's a game developed for the Cube that uses Wii controls - apparently it looks the same on both systems (apart from the Wii version supporting widescreen, and is a complete mirror image so that Link is right handed to match the controls). I don't think it takes advantage of the Wii's additional graphic power or anything.

I also have Call of Duty 3, and this looks amazing despite the limited graphics capabilities of the Wii. I have GT Pro Series too, but the graphics in that are horrible - not sure why.
Rushed/cheap port? Trying to look realistic on the cheap, instead of having a non-realistic but good art style?

It doesn't look realistic at all. The cars don't look like they are drawn with four colours, they *are* drawn with four colours. There's no lighting from what I can see, so everything looks pretty flat. All in all, weird. I should have bought that operation game instead (can't remember the name).

There's a problem with the Wii. Every five minutes when playing games like Wii Sports, it asks you to wear the wrist strap. This is fine, because it's between games. However, what happens when the strap breaks during bowling?

http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2183346

We had a few people over this weekend and bowling was a big hit (and tennis, and golf too), but they were getting rather animated in front of my TV and I was wondering what would happen if they forgot the strap, or it broke! I think the article above answers my question.

I'm going to buy a Wii and plug it into my housemate's TV in the living room. Any TV breakages will not be my concern! :E But if somebody breaks the wiimote by hitting the telly, I won't be happy X(

Edit: I might also plug it into the TV card in my Iyonix. Does that work? Can you play Zelda properly close up? ie. sitting infront of the computer monitor, or do you need to stay some distance away, TV/sofa style?

Is the sensor bar suitable for moving between TV/computer regularly, or are you best leaving it set up in one place because it's a pain to set up?
