Stuart Tyrrell Developments have released a compact external CD/DVD drive for use with Risc PC, A7000, VirtualAcorn based machines and standard PCs.
The device is a little bigger than a CD case, and is ideal for users who want a simple to set up, portable solution aswell as machines such as the A7000 where there is a trade off between podules and optical drives.
This product that STD calls "cute" is supplied with drivers for Unipod and the Simtec USB cards, a USB cable and a UK power supply at UKP79.75 (UKP99 including VAT and carriage) and will be available at next weekends Wakefield Show.

The website http://www.stdevel.co.uk/products/usbdvd.html doesn't currently exist. Any ideas what USB class the DVD drive is? |

Not sure about the latter, but I've asked about the former and it's because they're still waiting for photographs of the device. That's why I pulled the link this morning and put the press release in it's place (well, it's still there, for the staff to de-comment later :) ). See, we check our sources, unlike Wired... :D |

There is a picture in the current issue of Qercus. If STD are busy in the run-up to Wakefield it's not surprising that photographing the drive is not high priority - after all the problems we had in getting a decent picture we were tempted to not call it cute! But it is cute to use and even our photographer has taken to asking for the 'snazzy drive' for use with everything. |
